Biography
Dr Scherer obtained his PhD at the Max-Planck-Institute for Immunobiology in Germany. After a postdoctoral position at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA, until 1999, he has been working on biomarker research and development projects in various positions, in the laboratory, as bioinformatician, and as project manager. Andreas worked for Novartis in Basel, CH, from 2000 until 2007, then as consultant and bioinformatician in his own company in Finland, and as Manager of the Bioinformatics Team at the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF) in Melbourne, AU. He is inventor and co-inventor of several biomarker-related gene patents, published a book on microarray data quality, and is involved in international research projects and consortia, such as the US FDA-guided SEQC. Besides his work in his consultancy company “Spheromicsâ€, Andreas is Biomarker Project Director at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) at the University of Helsinki, Finland, and has a role as National Coordinator in Finland of the European Research Infrastructure for Translational Medicine, EATRIS, for which he also acts as Co-chair of the Biomarker technology Platform.
