Xuemei is currently a Senior Principal Scientist in the Translational Molecular Biomarkers Department at Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia University and performed her postdoctoral research at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Biography Sergey Suchkov graduated from Astrakhan State Medical University and awarded with MD, then in 1985 maintained his PhD at the I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy and in 2001, maintained his Doctorship Degree at the Nat Inst of Immunology, Russia. From 1987 through 1989, he was a senior Researcher, Koltzov Inst of Developmental Biology. From 1989 through 1995, he was a Head of the Lab of Clinical Immunology, Helmholtz Eye Research Institute in Moscow. From 1995 through 2004, a Chair of the Dept for Clinical Immunology, Moscow Clinical Research Institute (MONIKI. Dr. Luo been studying molecular pathology related to human malignancies in the last 27 years. Currently, he is a Professor of Pathology and Director of High Throughput Genome Center at University of Pittsburgh. In the last 15 years, Dr. Luo has been largely focusing on genetic and molecular mechanism of human prostate and hepatocellular carcinomas. In this period, his group has identified and characterized several genes that are related to prostate cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, including SAPC, myopodin, CSR1, GPx3, ITGA7, MCM7, MT1h and GPC3. He has characterized several signaling pathways that play critical role in prostate cancer development, including Myopodin-ILK-MCM7 inhibitory signaling, myopodin-zyxin motility inhibition pathway, CSR1-CPSF3 and CSR1-XIAP apoptotic pathways, MT1h-EHMT1 egigenomic signaling, ITGA7-HtrA2 tumor suppression pathway, GPx3-PIG3 cell death pathway, and AR-MCM7 oncogenic pathway. He proposed prostate cancer field effect in 2002. He is one of the pioneers in utilizing high throughput gene expression and genome analyses to analyze field effects in prostate cancer and liver cancer. He is also the first in using methylation array and whole genome methylation sequencing to analyze prostate cancer. Recently, Dr. Luo’s group found that patterns of copy number variants of certain specific genome loci are predictive of prostate cancer clinical outcomes, regardless tissue origin. His discovery of several novel fusion transcripts and their association with aggressive prostate cancer has brought significant new insight into the field of prostate cancer research. Overall, these discoveries advance our understanding on how cancer develops and behaves, and lay down the foundation for better future diagnosis and treatment of human malignancies.

Dr. Búko has served as the Vice President of Human Metabolome Technologies-America (HMT-A) Biomarker discovery team since 2013, where he partners with biopharmaceutical companies to bring high resolution quantitative metabolomics profiling to pre-clinical and clinical studies. Prior to joining Human Metabolome Technologies, Dr. Búko was Senior Director Translational Medicine at Biogen for 10 years and Principal Investigator at Abbott labs for 18 years. He received his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Virginia, with post-doctoral work for Bureau of Biologics and Biophysics at Food and Drug administration.

Dr. Búko’s career has focused primarily on omics solutions for biomarker and target discovery within the biopharma pipeline. Most of his work has been in immunology, infectious disease and neurology, however, at HMT-A he has widened his scope to many other therapeutic areas. While in biopharma Alex managed biomarker pipelines from pre-clinical to clinical studies using various protein and small molecule technologies to discovery and validate biomarkers for drug development and patient stratification. Dr. Búko’s areas of expertise include proteomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, protein assays and the statistical and biological pathway approaches required to combine omics data and generate prognostic and diagnostic algorithms.

Fred Baribaud holds a PhD from the University of Lausanne and has conducted postdoctoral studies at the University of Pennsylvania. He has worked at Incyte Corporation in a discovery role on target validation and as a compound team co-lead for small molecular inhibitors. For the past ten years, Fred has worked at Janssen R&D in Imunology Biomarkers on various inflammatory diseases. Dr. Pant received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Agra University, Agra, India. His postdoctoral studies were conducted on the mechanisms of electron and ion transport in model membrane systems at the Department of Biophysics at Michigan State University. He joined the Laboratory of Neurobiology in the NIMH as a senior staff fellow in 1974 with Dr. Ichiji Tasaki where he studied the function of the axonal cytoskeleton in the squid giant axon. In 1979 he moved to the NIAAA extending his studies on the neuronal cytoskeleton and the effects of alcohol on its regulation. Dr. Pant moved to the NINDS, Laboratory of Neurochemistry in 1987 where he is presently chief of the section on Cytoskeleton Regulation. His laboratory is studying the mechanisms of topographic regulation of neuronal cytoskeleton proteins by post-translational modification, including the role of kinase cascades in normal brain and during neurodegeneration.

The major focus of this laboratory has been to study the mechanisms of topographic regulation of neuronal cytoskeletal proteins regulation by phosphorylation and neurodegeneration. In a normal physiological state, cytoskeletal proteins are phosphorylated extensively in the axonal compartment of a mature neuron. Although all the substrates, kinases, phosphatases and their regulators are synthesized in neuronal cell bodies, little or no cytoskeletal protein phosphorylation has been detected in the cell body compartment. Under a variety of neuropathological conditions, however, such as ALS, Alzheimers Disease, or Picks disease, hyperphosphorylation of these molecules has been found in abnormal aggregates within cell bodies, usually correlated with massive neuronal cell death. The mechanisms underlying these profound compartmental shifts in neuronal phosphorylation are not well understood.The normal physiological processes within neurons are controlled by signal transduction mechanisms that regulate the balance between protein kinase and protein phosphatase activities. We have shown that the most abundant and extensively phosphorylated motifs in the c-terminal domains (lys-ser-pro-, or KSP) are primarily phosphorylated by proline directed kinases, cdk5 and MAP kinases. Moreover, we have demonstrated that this phosphorylation is due to activation of the signal transduction cascade. Recently, we have focussed on the other part of this regulation, the protein phosphatases. The other project is to study the expression, regulation and role of neuronal Cdk5 in nerve cell function.Cdk5 is a unique multifunctional kinase. Unlike other cyclin-dependent kinases, it is expressed predominantly in post-mitotic neurons, its activity modulated by association with nervous system-specific propeins. Since its identification and characterization in our laboratory, we have been intensively studying its mechanisms of regulation and its role in nerve cell function.

Dr. Srinivas Pentyala is the Director of Translational Research and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology in Stony Brook University Medical Center, NY, USA. Dr A-Lien Lu-Chang completed her PhD from University of North Carolina at Chepel Hill and postdoctoral studies from Duke University School of Medicine with Dr. Paul Modrich (Nobel laureate in Chemistry in 2015). She is the Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at University of Maryland Medical School and a member of University of Maryland Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has published more than 63 peer-reviewed papers in reputed journals, holds a potent, and has been serving as an editorial board members of four journals.

My laboratory is studying the interplays among DNA repair, DNA replication, cell cycle checkpoint, transcription, and chromatin remodeling. We investigate the impact of their coordination on telomere integrity and carcinogensis. Our work highlights potential targets that can be exploited clinically for cancer therapies.

Dr. Qing Kay Li is an associate professor of pathology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She has the American Board of Pathology certification in anatomic and clinical pathology, and subspecialty certification in cytopathology. Her areas of clinical expertise include surgical pathology and cytopathology. Dr. Li is also a faculty member and co-PI at the Johns Hopkins Biomarker Discovery Center.

Dr. Hoque is an Associate Professor of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Urology and Oncology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Hoque completed dental and oral surgery training at the Dhaka Dental College, Dhaka University, Bangladesh. He then moved to Japan for the completion of Ph.D degree, where he also completed Advanced Clinical Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Oncology. After training in Japan, he worked in the Head and Neck Cancer Research Division as a Postdoctoral Fellow under the mentorship of Dr. David Sidransky. He joined as a faculty member in 2006 in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. His research interests includes: a) To understand molecular biologic basis of head and neck, lung and genitourinary cancer b) To develop and validate genetic and epigenetic approach for early cancer diagnosis, cancer risk assessment and cancer prognosis and c) To identify molecular alterations due to environmental exposures such as active smoking, passive smoking and arsenic.

Dr. Suzuki worked in Research and Development Center, Hitachi Medical Co, Japan, from 1993 to 1997. Zeliha Selamoglu trained at the Department of Biology, Faculty of Arts and Science, Inonu University, Malatya, Turkey (Ph.D, 2005). She is at the Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Arts and Science, Omer Halisdemir University, Nigde, Turkey at the now (Full. Prof., 2015). Her research interests include tyrosine tydroxylase activity, oxidative stress, antioxidants, selenium, bee products such as propolis and also natural products. Her current research concerns the antioxidant activity, in vivo oxidative stress by environmental chemicals and health risk assessment of environmental chemicals. The studing of heavy metals which environmental contaminants, toxic agents and trace metals which have some metabolic and environmental effects are important try fields. She has researched antihypertensive effects of organoselenium, bee products such as CAPE, pollen and propolis which played an important role in supression of oxidative stress, too. She has also researched biological activities of natural protective agents which is very important at detoxification of toxic chemicals. Besides, that the investigation of natural antioxidants which has metabolic significance and effects againts oxidative stress and hypertension in vivo. In addition to, synthetic antioxidants has been included her interested area. She has got two membership. Hem D. Shukla is Research Scientist in Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at University of Maryland and adjunct Professor of Genomics in Notre Dame of Maryland University. He has also worked as Research Faculty in Department of Biology at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Shukla has worked on proteomic analysis of oxidative stress response in BxPC-3 pancreatic cell lines and identification of biomarkers for early detection of pancreatic cancer. He has worked on “The Nrf2 mediated antioxidant defense against oxidative stress in pancreatic cancer cell lines and targets for therapeutic intervention”. He has shown elevated level of Nrf2 transcriptional factor in pancreatic cancer cell lines under oxidative stress which is phosphorylated by protein kinase C and affects phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and MAP kinase pathways. After phosphorylation, Nrf2 translocates to the nucleus, binds AREs and transactivates detoxifying enzymes and antioxidant enzymes, such as glutathione S-transferase, and superoxide dismutase. The IPA analysis has suggested a potential role of Nrf2 under oxidative stress conditions.

David I Smith completed his Ph.D. at the age of 23 years from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and then did post-doctoral studies at the University of California in Irvine. Since 1996 he has been a Professor at the Mayo Clinic in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. He is also the Chairman of the Technology Assessment Group for the Center for Individualized Medicine at the Mayo Clinic. His laboratory studies the common fragile sites and the role that these regions of instability play in the development of cancer. His group also studies the different ways that HPV can contribute to the development of different cancers. He has published over 200 papers in reputed journals and serves on the Editorial Board of a number of journals.

Dr. Pant received his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Physics from Agra University, Agra, India. His postdoctoral studies were conducted on the mechanisms of electron and ion transport in model membrane systems at the Department of Biophysics at Michigan State University. He joined the Laboratory of Neurobiology in the NIMH as a senior staff fellow in 1974 with Dr. Ichiji Tasaki where he studied the function of the axonal cytoskeleton in the squid giant axon. In 1979 he moved to the NIAAA extending his studies on the neuronal cytoskeleton and the effects of alcohol on its regulation. Dr. Pant moved to the NINDS, Laboratory of Neurochemistry in 1987 where he is presently chief of the section on Cytoskeleton Regulation. His laboratory is studying the mechanisms of topographic regulation of neuronal cytoskeleton proteins by post-translational modification, including the role of kinase cascades in normal brain and during neurodegeneration.

Shivendra V. Singh earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the Banaras Hindu University (India). In 1983, Dr. Singh came to the United States to pursue post-doctoral training at the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX and studied glutathione-linked detoxification mechanisms. In 1988, Dr. Singh was appointed to the faculty of the University of Miami, School of Medicine as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Oncology. The Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh recruited Dr. Singh in 1992 to head its Cancer Research Laboratory and direct basic cancer research program. Dr. Singh joined the University of Pittsburgh in 2000 as a Tenured Professor of Pharmacology & Chemical Biology and member of University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI). Dr. Singh holds a secondary appointment in the Department of Urology in School of Medicine, and is the Associate Director for Basic Research at the UPCI. Dr. Singh was honored with UPMC Endowed Chair Cancer Prevention Research in 2014. Dr. Singh is a co-author of over 240 research articles in peer-reviewed journals and 22 review articles/book chapters. Dr. Luo been studying molecular pathology related to human malignancies in the last 24 years. Currently, he is a Professor of Pathology and Director of High Throughput Genome Center at University of Pittsburgh. In the last 16 years, Dr. Luo has been largely focusing on genetic and molecular mechanism of human prostate and hepatocellular carcinomas. In this period, his group has identified and characterized several genes that are related to prostate cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma, including SAPC, myopodin, CSR1, GPx3, ITGA7, MCM7, MT1h and GPC3. He has characterized several signaling pathways that play critical role in prostate cancer development, including Myopodin-ILK-MCM7 inhibitory signaling, myopodin-zyxin motility inhibition pathway, CSR1-CPSF3, CSR1-SF3A3 and CSR1-XIAP apoptotic pathways, MT1h-EHMT1 egigenomic signaling, ITGA7-HtrA2 tumor suppression pathway, GPx3-PIG3 cell death pathway, AR-MCM7 and MCM7-SF3B3 oncogenic pathways. He proposed prostate cancer field effect in 2002. He is one of the pioneers in utilizing high throughput gene expression and genome analyses to analyze field effects in prostate cancer and liver cancer. He is also the first in using methylation array and whole genome methylation sequencing to analyze prostate cancer. Recently, Dr. Luo’s group found that patterns of copy number variants of certain specific genome loci are predictive of prostate cancer clinical outcomes, regardless tissue origin. His discovery of several novel fusion transcripts and their association with aggressive prostate cancer has brought significant new insight into the field of prostate cancer research. Overall, these findings advance our understanding on how cancer develops and behaves, and lay down the foundation for better future diagnosis and treatment of human malignancies.

After a postdoctoral position at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, USA, until 1999, he has been working on biomarker research and development projects in various positions, in the laboratory, as bioinformatician, and as project manager. Andreas worked for Novartis in Basel, CH, from 2000 until 2007, then as consultant and bioinformatician in his own company in Finland, and as Manager of the Bioinformatics Team at the Australian Genome Research Facility (AGRF) in Melbourne, AU. He is inventor and co-inventor of several biomarker-related gene patents, published a book on microarray data quality, and is involved in international research projects and consortia, such as the US FDA-guided SEQC. Lori A. Henderson is a Program Director at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), an institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has 17 years experience with technical and managerial expertise in several scientific areas: bioengineering, biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnology, enzymology, and biomedical technologies. She currently manages the Nanotechnology and Drug and Gene Delivery programs within the Division of Discovery Science and Technology in the Extramural Division of the NIBIB. She also represents the NIH on the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering & Technology (NSET). Her responsibilities at the NIH also include co-managing projects within the Nanomedicine, Interdisciplinary Research, and Regulatory Science programs supported by the NIH Common Fund. These trans-NIH and trans-agency programs include research projects that cut across scientific disciplines and challenges conventional thinking. Prior to the NIH, Dr. Henderson was a Group Leader of the Biomaterials Group within the Polymers Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Charles J. Malemud received the Ph.D. from George Washington University in 1973 and completed postdoctoral studies at the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1977. Since 1977, Dr. Malemud has been a member of the faculty at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine where he is presently Professor of Medicine & Anatomy in the Division of Rheumatic Diseases and Senior Investigator in the Arthritis Research Laboratory. Dr. Sihem Bihorel (Ait-Oudhia) is an assistant professor at the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Florida. Her laboratory is located at the Center for Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology in Lake Nona, Orlando. In her research, Dr. Bihorel utilizes quantitative systems pharmacology approaches to guide the development of new therapies and the identification of promising combination therapies as well as of novel biomarkers in oncology. She integrates quantitative systems pharmacology with PK/PD modeling and simulation to advance drug discovery and development, and leverage the understanding of drugs action which holds great promise to facilitate translational research. Her research is also focused on investigating how priming solid tumors with pro-apoptotic agents enhances the deposition and efficacy of subsequent associated macromolecules and how these combination can be beneficial in defeating drug resistance in cancer. Prior to her current position, Dr. Bihorel was research assistant professor at the department of pharmaceutical sciences at the School of Pharmacy at the University at Buffalo (SUNY Buffalo). Claudio Nicolini was born in Udine, Italy. He received the doctoral degree in physics from the University of Padua, in 1967. After serving as Adjunct Professor at the University of Bari, he moved for 17 years to the United States, of which he became citizen since 1974, and was originally at Brown University, MIT, and BNL. He then moved to Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, where after a period of intensive training and research in pathology he became Associate Professor of Pathology and then Professor and Chairman of the Biophysics in 1976. In 1985, he was called as “eminent scientist” to the Chair of Biophysics of the University of Genoa, in Italy until 2012, where he was successively Director of Biophysics Institute, DISTBIMO and CIRSDNNOB. From 1993 until now is Life President of the Fondazione ELBA Nicolini and of the Nanoworld Institute. On 2008 has been elected as a Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and on 2010 Honoris Causa Professor of Biophysics and Nanobiotechnology at Moscow State University. Professor Marija Krstic-Demonacos has completed her Ph.D. from University of California San Francisco, postdoctoral studies from Glasgow University and was a Lecturer and Principal Investigator in the University of Manchester. She was a recipient of a prestigious Wellcome Trust fellowship and was recently awarded the Honorary Visitor status in the University of Manchester and a Chair in Molecular Medicine in the University of Salford. She has published 43 papers in reputed journals and is serving as an editorial board member of several journals. In addition, commercialization potential of her research is evidenced by the three patents she owns. Henderson is a Program Director at the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB), an institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and has 17 years experience with technical and managerial expertise in several scientific areas: bioengineering, biotechnology, materials science, nanotechnology, enzymology, and biomedical technologies. She currently manages the Nanotechnology and Drug and Gene Delivery programs within the Division of Discovery Science and Technology in the Extramural Division of the NIBIB. She also represents the NIH on the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) subcommittee on Nanoscale Science, Engineering & Technology (NSET). Her responsibilities at the NIH also include co-managing projects within the Nanomedicine, Interdisciplinary Research, and Regulatory Science programs supported by the NIH Common Fund. These trans-NIH and trans-agency programs include research projects that cut across scientific disciplines and challenges conventional thinking. Alan Prem Kumar earned his Ph.D. from University of North Texas, USA. From his Ph.D. work, he discovered a novel regulatory protein, PyrR for the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway in Pseudomonas. Dr. Kumar then pursued Postdoctoral training in Cancer Research at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, California, USA. He was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship for his work on the role of nuclear receptors. Dr. Kumar relocated back to Singapore to join Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, National University of Singapore as an independent Principal Investigator to continue on his expertise on nuclear receptor and cancer pharmacology. His current research interest includes the role of nuclear receptors involved in the regulation of target genes and to elucidate mechanism and associated signal pathways. Another area of interest is aimed at developing new derivative drugs with hopefully fewer side effects. Over the years, Dr. Kumar and his laboratory have forged relationships with scientists in cancer research and with cancer advocacy groups in Singapore.

My primary research focuses in the areas of signaling by nuclear receptors and oncogenes as well as the development of molecular therapeutics and biomarkers of drug action in human breast cancer. We recently identified a novel oncogene that regulates a key pathway controlling cell proliferation, migration and drug resistance in breast, prostate, gastric, and colon cancers. Current research also focuses on developing therapeutic strategies to target this marker with the ultimate aim of conducting translational studies in patients.

Neil Box is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Denver. He is a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center, Skin Diseases Research Center and the Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology Center. He is an active member of the Skin Cancer Tissue Bank executive committee. He has received Research Career Development Awards from the Dermatology Foundation and the American Skin Association. Dr. Box completed his graduate school training on the genetics of human hair, skin and eye color in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Sturm at the University of Queensland, Australia. During this period he identified some of the key red hair color variants at the MC1R locus (eg. R151C, R160W). His subsequent research on this subject produced some of the seminal melanoma association and gene interaction studies for MC1R. Since moving to the USA in 2001, he performed postdoctoral trained with two leading scientists in mouse models of human disease: Dr. Monica Justice and Dr. Dennis Roop at Baylor College of Medicine. From this work, he has assembled a research program aimed at uncovering the molecular mechanisms regulating melanoma risk. Jamal Zweit is a Professor of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Molecular Pathology, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He is also the Director of the Center for Molecular Imaging at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He leads an inter-disciplinary and inter-collaborative molecular imaging research program that emphasizes multi-modality approaches to study biochemical and biological pathways in vivo. Professor Zweit's research interests include the development of paradigms for molecular imaging and nanotechnology strategies for preclinical and clinical translational research in cancer biology and therapeutics. He is internationally recognized for his work in molecular imaging of cancer drug development, and conducted the "world’s first" Molecular PET Imaging clinical trial of Anti-angiogenic therapy in cancer patients (Journal National Cancer Institute 2002). Professor Zweit serves as an advisor on a number of committees, including the Cancer Research UK Pharmacodynamic and Pharmacokiunetic Technologies Advisory Committee (Journal National Cancer Institute, 2006). He serves on the review body of a number of funding organizations, both in Europe and North America. He has supervised a total of 24 MSc, MD and PhD theses. Before joining NIST in 2005, Dr. Henderson worked for Novozymes North America, BASF, and Akzo Nobel, where she was a research supervisor, global project leader, and a senior scientist. Dr. Henderson holds a M.S. degree in Macromolecular and Organic Chemistry, and obtained a Ph.D. in Polymer Science from University of Massachusetts, Lowell.

Alan Prem Kumar earned his Ph.D. from University of North Texas, USA. From his Ph.D. work, he discovered a novel regulatory protein, PyrR for the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway in Pseudomonas. Dr. Kumar then pursued Postdoctoral training in Cancer Research at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center, California, USA. He was awarded a Postdoctoral Fellowship for his work on the role of nuclear receptors. Dr. Kumar relocated back to Singapore to join Cancer Science Institute of Singapore, National University of Singapore as an independent Principal Investigator to continue on his expertise on nuclear receptor and cancer pharmacology. His current research interest includes the role of nuclear receptors involved in the regulation of target genes and to elucidate mechanism and associated signal pathways. Another area of interest is aimed at developing new derivative drugs with hopefully fewer side effects. Over the years, Dr. Kumar and his laboratory have forged relationships with scientists in cancer research and with cancer advocacy groups in Singapore.

My primary research focuses in the areas of signaling by nuclear receptors and oncogenes as well as the development of molecular therapeutics and biomarkers of drug action in human breast cancer. We recently identified a novel oncogene that regulates a key pathway controlling cell proliferation, migration and drug resistance in breast, prostate, gastric, and colon cancers. Current research also focuses on developing therapeutic strategies to target this marker with the ultimate aim of conducting translational studies in patients.

Neil Box is a Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Colorado Denver. He is a member of the University of Colorado Cancer Center, Skin Diseases Research Center and the Charles C. Gates Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cell Biology Center. He is an active member of the Skin Cancer Tissue Bank executive committee. He has received Research Career Development Awards from the Dermatology Foundation and the American Skin Association. Dr. Box completed his graduate school training on the genetics of human hair, skin and eye color in the laboratory of Dr. Richard Sturm at the University of Queensland, Australia. During this period he identified some of the key red hair color variants at the MC1R locus (eg. R151C, R160W). His subsequent research on this subject produced some of the seminal melanoma association and gene interaction studies for MC1R. Since moving to the USA in 2001, he performed postdoctoral trained with two leading scientists in mouse models of human disease: Dr. Monica Justice and Dr. Dennis Roop at Baylor College of Medicine. From this work, he has assembled a research program aimed at uncovering the molecular mechanisms regulating melanoma risk. Since his recruitment to the University of Colorado in 2007, he has also continued his interests in working with human melanoma risk genes to explore their potential clinical and public health applications.

Yuxun Wang is currently the Executive Director and Head of Cancer Biology at HD Biosciences. He has a blend of experiences in both academia and biopharmaceutical industry in the US. Previously, he was associate director at Metamark Genetics, assistant professor at University of South Carolina and senior scientist at Merck Research Laboratory. His research has focused on translational oncology, cancer drug and predictive biomarker discovery. He has over 24 research publications and patent, numerous conference presentations and invited talks. He has received a number of awards recognizing his research and service in both academia and industry.

Geetika Chakravarty's research is geared towards the identification and evaluation of new cancer stem cell biomarkers and novel strategies to target them using breast cancer as the model system. Her research has resulted in patents, invited book chapter and several first and co-authored publications. She is also dedicated to help maintain the most rigorous standards of scientific inquiry and progress and as such serves as the editorial board member and journal reviewer of cancer related journals.

Sevtap Savas obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 1999. She was trained as a post-doctoral trainee and a Research Associate at Louisiana State University (USA), Mount Sinai Hospital Research Institute (Canada) and Princess Margaret Hospital/Ontario Cancer Institute (Canada), before joining the Memorial University (Canada) as an Assistant Professor in 2008. She has a multidisciplinary research program integrating molecular genetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics and epidemiology and currently focuses on identification of genetic markers that can predict clinical outcome in colorectal cancer patients.

Yaguang Xi got the Ph.D from Peking University after his clinical training. He is an Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute. To date, Dr. Xi has authored 43 publications in many prestigious journals and is serving as the member of editorial board and ad-hoc reviewer for many journals and grant agencies.

Michael Holinstat is an assistant professor of Medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and postdoctoral training at Vanderbilt University in the Department of Pharmacology. His research focuses on identifying novel approaches to anti-platelet therapy with a special emphasis on regulation of platelets through the lipoxygenase pathway leading to a number of oxidized fatty acids which may play a central role in regulating unwanted platelet activation. Additionally, the lab studies regulation of platelet signaling through PAR1 and PAR4.

Feng Yan, has completed her Ph.D from Yangzhou University in China. She is the Vice Director of Department of Clinical Laboratory in Jiangsu Cancer Hospital, and an Professor of Nanjing Medical University. The research works of Feng Yan focus on the bioanalytical chemistry in laboratory medical diagnostics, particularly in detection of tumor markers and tumor cells. She was the Outstanding Medical Talents (2007), Excellent Medical Talent (2011) and Leading Medical Talent (2011) of Jiangsu Province. She has published more than 42 papers in reputed journals.

Jamal Zweit is a Professor of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Molecular Pathology, and Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. He is also the Director of the Center for Molecular Imaging at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He leads an inter-disciplinary and inter-collaborative molecular imaging research program that emphasizes multi-modality approaches to study biochemical and biological pathways in vivo. Professor Zweit's research interests include the development of paradigms for molecular imaging and nanotechnology strategies for preclinical and clinical translational research in cancer biology and therapeutics. He is internationally recognized for his work in molecular imaging of cancer drug development, and conducted the "world’s first" Molecular PET Imaging clinical trial of Anti-angiogenic therapy in cancer patients (Journal National Cancer Institute 2002). Professor Zweit serves as an advisor on a number of committees, including the Cancer Research UK Pharmacodynamic and Pharmacokiunetic Technologies Advisory Committee (Journal National Cancer Institute, 2006). He serves on the review body of a number of funding organizations, both in Europe and North America. He has supervised a total of 24 MSc, MD and PhD theses. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed articles, over 250 conference abstracts, and 6 review articles and book chapters. Professor Zweit obtained his PhD and DSc from the University of Manchester Medical School. Prior to that, He studied for an MSc degree in PET Pharmacology. He received his Nuclear Medicine training at the John F. Kennedy Medical Centre in New Jersey, and attended advanced Nuclear Medicine training at the Brooklyn Hospital in New York As an Undergraduate, he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree, in Radiation Biophysics, with a Biochemistry double major, from the University of Kansas.

Dr. Bowser is Chairman of Neurobiology and Director of the Gregory W. Fulton ALS and Neuromuscular Research Center at the Barrow Neurological Institute and St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He obtained his PhD from Yale University School of Medicine and was a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine for 18 years prior to his arrival in Phoenix in 2011. Dr. Bowser is also co-Founder of Knopp Biosciences, LLC and Iron Horse Diagnostics, Inc., biotechnology companies advancing new treatments and ways to diagnose neurologic disorders. Iron Horse Diagnostics is commercializing the first diagnostic test for ALS. Dr. Bowser's research interests are to determine the molecular and cellular basis of motor neuron cell death in ALS and translate these findings to the clinic. His laboratory leads efforts in the discovery and validation of protein biomarkers for ALS. Dr. Bowser also pursues methods to monitor ALS disease progression and drug effects during clinical trials. Jagat Kanwar is an Immunologist and Molecular Biochemist. He is group leader of the Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Biomedical Research. Kanwar's research work generated in total of 12 patent/PCTs with two provisionals in preparation. Five of these patents have been licensed for commercialization to biotech companies Antisoma, NeuronZ, Neuren Pharmaceuticals and Fonterra. He was invited as a speaker in more than 30 conferences and chaired sessions in Immunology, Nanotechnology, Nanomedicine and Biotechnology.

His experience includes serving as principal investigator of the laboratory core for the University of Minnesota CPRU program project, co-principal investigator of YALTA and as co-investigator of several clinical trials and epidemiologic studies emphasizing diet, genetics and biological markers. His laboratory has served as an analytical facility for several multicenter studies including CARDIA, ARIC and CATCH. Sample tracking, data handling, biochemical analysis and sample storage for large epidemiologic studies are a routine part of his laboratory.
